My favorite scene was Sister Roe preparing Vanessa for the prom. The intimacy and love they shared, especially when the nun gave the child her mother's golden hairpin, I just couldn't handle. It was the most beautiful scene of the entire book, the true mother-child love.

My favorite part was when Trisha, being a very good swimmer, rescued Vanessa and her baby from drowning. The author described in detail how she managed to do it with her powerful strokes.
