Out of all the characters, I liked Sister Rosalie the best. I found her the most relatable and a bit quirky and funny.

Her character was a formidable one. She was not scared of anyone and was quick to always pass a lesson to whoever would listen. I like how protective she is in the novel.

I liked reading about Sister Rosalie the most because she was one of the only characters who was well-fleshed out. She wore her emotions on her sleeve, so it was really easy to get a read on her. I had a hard time connecting with the other characters because they felt flat to me.

I agree. Sister Rosalie is the ultimate selfless and loving nun. She takes care of those around her with devotion. She is loyal and reliable. Ultimately, she showed Vanessa what it means to be loved and have a family caring for her.

In the beginning, Sister Rosalie was very annoying. When Vanessa got ready for her prom with Barry, her true character started shining through. She made a big sacrifice in her life for Vanessa. She was a rare gem and Vanessa couldn't have wished for a better "mother." It was just unfortunate she couldn't teach Vanessa more about the realities of life outside the orphanage.

I was sad that she died. I guess the story, as it happened, could not have gone in the direction that it did if Vanessa had her protector.

I liked Sister Rosalie. I was immediately drawn to her and while I was reading, I was getting a history lesson about Charleston at the same time. She may have seemed annoying but she really did have a good heart. Vanessa had a really good relationship with her and all those history talked eventually helped Vanessa in her career. I was sad that Sister Rosalie passed away in the storyline.

I felt as though in the beginning her constantly spouting off historical information was very annoying. It wasn't until the book approached her death that I truly began to understand and appreciate her as a character. I did enjoy that she felt such a strong relationship with Vanessa, but I feel this was not portrayed in the story until the end of her life.

I thought Sister Rosalie had the most personality of the characters. She was clever and lively and loved Vanessa and the other children at the orphanage. She was unusual, and you wouldn't find many people like her.

Sister Rosalie was my favorite character in this book, her character embodies and radiates warmth and maternal love. Her kindness, intellect, sacrifice, and her eccentricities bring a lot of joy and laughter to the story. Her strong emotional connection with Vanessa and all the kids in the orphanage is just so beautiful.

She is definitely a quirky character, but I loved her—so eccentric and sometimes annoying, yet a fountain of knowledge nonetheless. I was also surprised to learn that she was actually pursuing a doctorate in American history, though she never completed it. That detail explains a lot about her passion for history and the way she shares it with others. Her small but meaningful gestures, like giving Vanessa a gold hairpin for prom and her own golden chain, make her even more endearing.

I found her annoying at first, but it felt like a punch to the gut when she died. After learning more about Sister Rosalie's character and backstory, I came to appreciate her kindness toward others more.

I can't believe it—did you really study at that time? I was so moved reading your post; I even got chills. That’s incredible. I hope you never had to go through something like the bus situation. While it feels like the calm before the storm, I imagine it must have been extremely sad to see other regions suffering from even worse things.
Sister Rosalie frustrated me so much throughout the book with those endless historical facts :oops2: , but that didn’t take away from the beauty of how she treated Vanessa and all the orphans she cared for. I really agree that it feels like there was another story—like Vanessa’s origins—that we were never told (or that was just forgotten).

Sister Rosalie is definitely one of my favorite characters in the book. Her spunk, generosity of spirit, love for people, protectiveness and community spirit are just some of her many attributes that she brings to the story. I love the style she uses to get the young people to love and learn the history of South Carolina.
