The ending of "Deceptive Calm" was satisfying, tying up loose ends while leaving room for future possibilities. It offered a hopeful resolution to the characters' challenges, balancing romance with social commentary.

I agree with many others here saying that the ending was like a boomerang, ending right where everything began. I didn't like the ending at all, it felt rushed, or it should have had an epilogue to make the transition smoother.
I think it was terrible that she went back to Barry. It was shallow to keep loving him for so many years after he was so cruel to her. It supports the idea that every woman needs a man to be happy, and I feel terrible that she went back to a cheating ex, after proving she was a successful career-woman. I feel like there were many unresolved issues like Trisha's ending, since we followed her story throughout the book, as well as the baby's condition and future health problems related to the disease.

I think an epilogue was needed. The end was so abrupt. Yes loose end were tied up, but is felt so rushed. On top of that, I don't believe Vanessa should have gone back to Barry. I know 1st love can have a lifelong effect, but to go back to someone who treated her the way he did? Doesn't work for me. The end did disappoint, however I did like the book overall.

The last chapters were generally too fast for me, everything ended abruptly and left too many loose ends. The book needed an epilogue for at least some of the character endings.
And I can't say I'm thrilled that Vanessa ended up with Barry, or at least she shouldn't take him back so quickly.

I went to turn the page to keep reading, and when I saw it was the end, I was taken aback. It felt really abrupt.

I think an epilogue is something we all wanted, the story ended abruptly. I liked how Barry tried to help and went to Vanessa's city. Vanessa left Barry(for a reason), but I think they never really talked about their relationship and couldn't move on or live a new life.

While the ending wasn't my absolute favorite part of the book, I can appreciate the author's choices. It was a bold way to conclude the story, and it certainly left a lasting impression.

This ending was bitter-sweet. I hate that she went back to Barry, however, I love that the author managed to capture the harsh reality of most people who probably face the same struggles as Vanessa, instead of romanticizing the story just for the plot, or just to create a peaceful atmosphere for the readers.

The ending was too rushed. I felt there are some things that could have been stated. What was the punishment for Tod and his father’s crime?? How did Suzanne, the drama Queen reacted? Were the sheriffs commended? Did Vanessa and Trisha decide to go back to Charleston? I had questions like this after I read the ending.

I felt Vanessa's getting back with Barry after so many years was unrealistic. She had a traumatic experience because of her relationship with him when she was young, and then out of the blue, she got back with him.

I thought the ending was very rushed and clumsy. The didn't like that the detective (Cliff) was introduced so late in the book and used as a viewpoint character for a mystery that the reader already knows. Barry's reintroduction was unnecessary after being absent from the book for so long (and not being developed enough during his time for the true love ending.)

Now that I've gone through most reviews her, In happy that I'm not the only one that didn't appreciate the book's ending. It was shortlived and unsatisfactory. When I finished, I was like 'Is that all?'

The ending felt unfinished to me. It seemed rushed and a little contrite. There were a couple of things that didn't have a conclusive end. What happened to Trisha? Did she survive? We don't find out - only that she is close to death. What about the Von Westerkamps? A very influential family who could easily have paid off their jail sentence. Did they walk free? We don't know. I felt as if the person who had played the biggest part in Vanessa's rescue, namely Trisha, was quickly overshadowed by Barry coming back into her life so they could have a weak romantic ending. That is not a great conclusion.

The ending seemed unfinished. I felt the author abandoned Trisha, who was quite heroic and a more interesting character to me than Vanessa. Also, I didn't believe Vanessa and Barry could click back together so easily after the years and life experiences they had separately.
