Insofar as the word 'should' even has meaning, then we must say that the past is exactly as it should be, everything that happened should have happened, and everything that should happen will happen

I recommend Deceptive Calm to readers who enjoy historical fiction, are interested in social justice, and want to explore the complex racial dynamics of the 1960s American South. It's a thought-provoking and engaging novel that vividly portrays a turbulent era.

The author's vivid portrayal of the era's complex racial dynamics is both gripping and, at times, uncomfortable - as it should be.

his isn't a sanitized version of history; it's a raw, honest look at a pivotal time in America's past. The narrative deftly weaves together personal stories with broader social issues, creating a tapestry that feels both intimate and expansive.
