Revolting is how I would describe Barry's father, Dr. William Hale. Doctor Hale's credentials as a great surgeon and Chief of Staff were superb under inhumane circumstances.

With the way he was described, his achievements were quite amazing. Doctors of those times put extra effort into learning and are always good at what they do.

I love how his past was brought into light, his service years and his accomplishments. I found it hard to see his clinic having limited resources to help.

I believe Dr. Hale has a key role in the story. He is the talented surgeon and dedicate doctor whose life falls apart after the sudden death of his wife. He has always meant well with Vanessa, wanting to help her. Nonetheless, he was not always able to come out of his shell and reach out. When she needed him the most he was conflicted and was not able to appropriately be there for her, despite wanting to.

I felt Dr Hale was in the right for refusing to help Vanessa m. I liked Vanessa as a character, but that was selfish of her to ask that of him. Especially when he is alone and mourning.

I'm not entirely sure what the first post means but Doctor Hale had an important role in the story. I think it was rather convenient that he was a doctor. I don't know if him refusing to directly help Vanessa was wrong or right, but I think he made an understandable choice in the moment.
