It is impossible for man to escape faith-based reasoning. I agree with this as many contributors to this post did. However, what the religious might tend to claim as faith-based is what is proven with their sacred scriptures. However, even the most logical individual who uses no religious theory base their reason on a kind of measure, in which they believe. Therefore, that is one faith upon which they reason.

Every decision made by an individual is based on the faith that it is going to work out. So yes the author is correct.

However, I suppose that some atheists may contend that there is a distinction between the type of faith that religion demands and this kind of fundamental trust in cognitive processes, which is a practical necessity. The former is more of an inevitable place to start when interacting with the outside world.

All reasoning starts out with an assumption or a belief in what we know to be true. However, we can never be sure that anything is true. Therefore we must have faith that it is true. This can be about any subject. I agree with the author.
