What I found inspiring and relatable was the importance Monica's parents had for education and how they instilled this in their children. It was evident that Monica placed great value on education as she was determined to go to college and university, and completed her education even while enduring challenges. I come from a family, too, that valued education and it was seen as the vehicle for upward social mobility. I remember we used to say a memory gem in primary school:
"Labor for learning before you grow old,
For learning is better than silver or gold
Silver and gold will vanish away
But a good education will never decay."
