Did reading "They Love You Until You Start Thinking for Yourself" by Monica Omorodion Swaida affect your understanding of immigration and cultural adjustment?

No. I thought Monica's story was an ultra-specific example of her experience with immigration. However, I think this is a rather unique experience that not all immigrants are going through. While hard work and dedication may have worked out for Swaida, a lot of immigrants face many more challenges and hardships than Swaida and her family had to endure. I think this book makes some broad assumptions about all immigration given the author's positive experience and success. I think this can be harmful as the author advocates for political policies that would actively harm and hinder other immigrants in similar positions to her.
