It's a fitting metaphor because there are now a lot of "crash diet" financial plans available, especially on social media. I go online and I see people promising to make their followers/readers rich if they buy a 500$ course, which is a bit ridiculous. Real things take time, effort, and discipline. I think that's what the metaphor is really emphasising, since a crash diet almost ends up failing because it inherently doesn't promote discipline. I have high hopes for this book!

I really enjoy this analogy. It’s easy to get caught up in wanting to go big right off the bat, whether with dieting or with finances, but sustainable practices are far more likely to deliver rewards because they can be attainably maintained versus ditched because it becomes too tough to continue.

The phrase "crash diets" implies a quick fix, without lasting results. Most people recover from a crash diet by gaining back more and weighing in heavier than what they started at. I am hoping that the book keeps the promise that you will have lasting results if you follow the directions. I also hope, the directions are manageable, not just another "invest x amount in this X year CD and earn 5%." Which means I would need hundreds of thousands of extra, free money to reach a million. I will wait and see when I read the book.

I did a radical diet once. The Dukan diet. I kept it for exactly 7 days (that was my goal) and at the end I started crying when I finally ate a piece of bread. It was definitely an experience. When our brain deprives itself of things, we get emotional when we encounter them again. I think this emotion when eating bread is a good metaphor. Regarding the connection between diet and finances, I agree that the quote mentioned is true. We can't deprive ourselves of things. Life happens now.

I looked up crash diet. I
What I have discovered is that this type of diet is unhealthy for anyone, physically or mentally. I’m happy this book will not be a crash diet. I want to be realistic about my goals so that I can create a solid game plan that will be successful. Kudos to a healthy diet!

It definitely feels apt because so many principals from good physical health transfer to good financial health. No fad diet will provide lasting results because they are all unsustainable in the long term. Similarly, "get-rich-quick" type schemes don't generate lasting wealth because they focus too much on dramatic (and risky) immediate actions rather than sustainable long-term life changes.

Excited to dig into the book!
