I love how the author points out that people are more alike than they are different. I also feel that she makes valid points that people cannot control their past, but they have choices about their future.

One theme that really stood out to me was trust and deception—especially how Jeannie has to navigate a web of hidden motives in a tight-knit community. I also appreciated the exploration of personal agency, with the idea that while we can’t change our past, we do have power over our future choices.

One theme that I would point out is about judging people. Passing hasty judgment based on the outward appearance of an individual is not reliable. Inner qualities matter more. The physical aspect of a person or their looks is superficial and could be deceiving. We must look deeper into the character of our fellow man before forming an opinion.
