That's quite a fan! I'm toying with the idea myself now...

Ha, I had actually wanted to name my daughter Dagny after the woman in Atlas Shrugged, but my husband wouldn't go for it. I'm glad I'm not the only nut.

Back on topic to "Ender's Game": I love that this is a young adult series that actually makes you sit and contemplate the bigger picture, rather than making you feel it's okay to stay in your own little world. While you see a lot of introspection throughout this book, and the series, there's a good dose of extrospection as well.

Call me odd for this, I will say I actually enjoyed "Ender's Shadow" a bit more. I don't know why, but Bean's story just really got to me. I also felt that the short story anthology "First Meetings in Ender's Universe" was a nice touch to the series. I always like when authors add such anthologies, to fill in some blanks and answer some questions.

I need to read this book! I have added it to my list of books to read this year. I love when I can put my hands on great Sci-Fi books. I will be watching the movie after the read. I didn't know it was a series so I am interested in continuing if I love this one.
All I need is a new book and a place to read it...

Definately one of my all-time favorite books. I actually got to meet the writer, and he was nice enough to talk to me and sign my book. The story really spoke to some of my experiences feeling isolated, and feeling like I had to grow up too fast. Powerful stuff, and the space opera stuff was handled really well, mixed perfectly with the game simulation.

I'd read a negative review once, comparing the character of Ender to the characterization of Hitler--they said that like Hitler, Ender was manipulated into becoming a war machine, mindlessly murdering his perceived enemy for the good of "his people." They said that this indirectly gave sympathy for people like Hitler. I disagree. While Ender is an extreme case of a hopeless individual wrapped up in the military machine, I feel he represents the author's intent to create the highest example of someone pushed to such emotional limits, and in the end having us get inside his head and figure out why he would still go through with all of it. I don't think it justifies anything, more than makes us simply think about it.

Anyway, these are my thoughts.
The joys of literature transcend the evils of the world. I believe in its miraculious baptism and emotional power of the words trickling down the page. To me, there is no higher artform...

One of my all time favorites. Really makes you think about human nature and why we are the way we are or do some of the things we do. The parallel book Ender's Shadow is equally brilliant, if darker.

So far I have just read the first book, but I hope to get to the next one soon. There's just something about this book that I have not found in any other yet. The author really creates characters of every personality you can think of and finds a way for them to all come together, even though they don't all get along.

I really enjoyed this book. What I particularly liked is that it's a book about children and childhood, but it's not a book 'for' children. Ender deals with situations the way a young boy would, not the way that a young boy would ike to think he could. I much prefer that to the current YA approach.

I think that you make a good point here. Orson Scott Card has even expressed surprise at how many children read and love this book. There is a huge difference between how children act and how they would like to believe they act. At the same time, Ender is endearing to children, they want to be like him.

I think that the difference between this book and a lot of YA fiction is that Ender's Game was written to adults, young people just tend to like it.

I read this book before the movie was ever thought of and absolutely loved the concept of it. It was just so interesting. I don't know if it's the whole under dog rising above idea that I love so much or something else, but I loved it nonetheless.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit different then I expected, only because of how someone introduced me to it, but still very enjoyable.

I loved this book. I finished it really quickly. Gonna have to pick up the sequel.

I loved this book! But i'm a geek gurl lol

I liked the movie. I just find it hard to watch any movie after reading the book relevant to it. I think they did the best they could with the movie seeing as the book was such a psychological book and not just a fast read. There were many layers to it that the movie just couldn't portray in 2 hours..
