Adrian Tchaikovsky

Post by Cynicus »

Hey everyone! I'm new here, and I figured I'd make a topic about a really neat fantasy author I was introduced to about two years ago, Adrian Tchaikovsky. He writes fantasy, but it's a very unique and original sort of fantasy. He currently has one series, which is set to conclude with the tenth entry later this years, Seal of the Worm.

His books are about a world in which insects are huge, powerful predators, and the only mammal that survived was the horse. To survive in such an enviroment, humans entered into pacts with the different species of insects to control them, and gain some of their attributes. Humans were divided into 'kinden' such as ants, bees, beetles, wasps, butterflies, moths, mantids, and so forth.

The story of the series is about Stenwold Maker, an aging politician and spymaster desperately trying to thwart the Wasp Empire, a fascist state of hyper-aggressive warriors. The books explore cultural differences and the value of multiple perspectives.

I really love this writers and am looking forward (but also dreading) the last installment. Anyone else ever read any of this books?
