From me as well. I started reading Harry Potter when I was seventeen and Rowling opened a whole new world for me.

J. K. Rowling. I think it was just after the first grade when I took Philosopher's Stone, sat on our grey couch and read until I finished it. And then continued...

It's hard to say for sure, but perhaps Tolkien since my mother read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy to me as a young child, and that was definitely an early formative experience for me.

it was the Enid Blyton books like the famous five and the secret seven series. I loved and still enjoy reading those books.

When I first got into reading, I read books by Enid Blyton, especially Malory Towers and St Clare's. At the time, some people disapproved of Enid Blyton. I had a friend who could only read them at my house because her parents had banned her from reading them!

For me it was Hans Christian Andersen and E.B.White. My love for literature started at a very early age.

For me, I was 9 years old and our teacher had just told us to go to the library corner in class and choose a book. I wasn't really into reading, and English was not my first language.
But I saw this book, the Bed and Breakfast Star, and I thought the cover was colourful and pretty, and it seemed like a funny read. 9 year old me was HOOKED - I went and read practically every book by Jacqueline Wilson after that, spent more and more time at the local library until other popular children's books eventually wormed their way to me: Percy Jackson, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter, Tom Gates.

My earliest books were fairy tale collections and a few Enid Blyton books donated by an aunt from my cousin's collection. My very first book was also a gift - 'twas William Johnston's Bozo and the Hide n Seek Elephant, where Bozo goes looking for Queenie the elephant!! My mom must have read it to me innumerable times.

Christopher Paolini. I read Eragon and Eldest when I was nine or ten and that's what finally got me into a major reading kick. I had tried reading the Harry Potter books prior to that and they just weren't as engaging, but after reading Paolini's books, I blazed through HP. He remains one of my favorite authors to this day and I'm excited he is branching into science-fiction while also returning to the world of Eragon.

I started reading self help books of all kinds and didn’t have a favorite author BUT when I started venturing into fiction it was Lisa Jewell. I love how her writing style and story lines that keep me pulled in.

David Eddings was the first one - my dad paid me $1 to read the first book in The Belgariad when I was 11. That inevitably lead to me tearing through that series and it's sequel series. From there I hopped to Raymond E. Feist, Mercedes Lackey, and Alan Dean Foster, and then my love for all things fantasy/sci-fi was cemented.

Peg Kehret for me! I used to binge-read her books in elementary school.
