Johanna Lindsey was the author that actually got me into reading actual novels. I remember having a shelf of books in my room that I had already read and my mom was too busy to take me to the library for something new. Not wanting to read the same books over and over again, I decided to scour the shelves of my mom's personal treasure trove when she was cooking and found a wide array of romance novels. Amongst them was a book by Johanna Lindsey titled "Warrior's Woman". It was the first time reading something so colorful. It was nothing like the tween books my mother bought me and opened my eyes to deeper, more adventurous (and dare I say sensual?), writings at an age younger than she had liked. Still, the story stuck with me and was my introduction to romance, a genre I now claim to be my second favorite even to this day.

My parents read to me from the day I was born, so book have always been a part of my life. One of the first books a remember reading repeatedly is The Voyage of QV66 by Penelope Lively, although I have not read anything else by her.
In terms of authors, Tolkien is very important to me. Again, his books were read to me as a child, and as an adult I can't help but be in awe of his genius.
Other greats for me are Orwell, Dickens, Phillippa Gregory and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike started me on my live for reading. I will never forget when my mom told.me I needed to write my name inside the books I've read because more than a couole times she purchased a book that I had donated to a thrift store. I grew up poor, so she also asked me to read slower because I was burning through books in 1 - 2 days, and she couldn't afford to keep buying books for me. I couldn't help it though, when a book is good, I just cannot consume it fast enough!
