More About Ken Follett, the Author of Fall of Giants

Post by Johngshin »

Ken Follett was more renowned as the author of blockbuster Eye of the Needle, when suddenly he came up with The Pillars of the Earth, surprising his readers in the process. It was a historical fictional story about an English Cathedral and how it was built. The Pillars of the Earth turned out to be an international bestseller title. Its sequel, World without End, also became a bestseller which was set in a period of two hundred years later.
Well Researched and Detailed
Ken Follet has the gift of writing beautifully detailed and well researched account of the time his books are set in, and Fall of Giants is no different. He chronicles the society and characters at every level, each mingling with the other in a seamless manner. When asked how he does his research, Ken Follett says he finds most of what he needs in books. He has read hundreds of books about Middle Ages, though he also looked around for medieval buildings and he found plenty of them in Europe.

He is a brilliant writer and I have most of his books. However imo he has alot of "very average" novels as well. "Pillars of the Earth" is of course my favourite but a very close second and I have read it numerous times is "A Dangerous Fortune" He has a real gift of transporting the reader to the particular time period of the book he has written. Of course this probably comes from meticulous research as well. :)
