Elie Wiesel

Post by gali »

Renowned Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel passed away aged 87. He was a prolific Nobel Peace Prize laureate whose memoir about surviving Nazi concentration camps was one of the most poignant accounts of the Holocaust.

Here are some of his famous quotes:

"Not all victims were Jews, but all Jews were victims."

"Anyone who preaches death, anyone who uses suicide terrorism, the pest of the present century, must be tried for crimes against humanity and his actions condemned."

"Terrorism must be outlawed by all civilized nations — not explained or rationalized, but fought and eradicated. Nothing can, nothing will justify the murder of innocent people and helpless children."

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of beauty is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, but indifference between life and death."

Rip! You'll be remembered!

Excellent books,truly an amazing read.
She made broken look beautiful
and strong look invincible.
She walked with the Universe
on her shoulders and made it
look like a pair of wings.

RIP Elie Weisel

I still remember reading Night about 10 years ago. The book made the horrors of the Holocaust come alive in such a personal way. It's such a powerful book and should be required reading in history classes. Thanks Gali for posting some of this wonderful man's quotes.
