Re: Who's Your Favorite Author?

This is such a difficult question, as it really depends on what mood I am in at the time! My biggest collections by single authors would probably be Jodi Picoult and James Patterson. I also love Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde.
I used to love R. L. Stine as a kid, and am very excited as I recently bought a few of his books that I discovered were aimed at an adult audience so I am looking forward to moving onto those next and seeing if they are as good as I remember his kids' books being!

I love Nicholas Sparks but I am finding that I really enjoy Mary Higgins Clark reads now as well. It has a romance but an edge with mystery and thriller thrown in. I really like that.

My favorite would have to be James Patterson. I love his style of writing and the flow of his words. I can tear through one of his novels in one day. I personally don't think an author has to be classic or "old" to be someone's favorite.

I absolutely love Stephen King. I have read maybe 8 of his books and love every minute of them. The funny thing is when I describe his books to people the first thing I say is "if you can make it past the first 150 pages you will get to the story". In the beginning of his books I sometimes get agitated because of his attention to detail however when I am 400 pages in and I know what color Mary's mailbox is and now 400 pages in it's a different color I know something is terribly wrong. I really do love his writing style. I would recommend his books to anyone who is adventurous in their reading.

I'd be hard pressed to choose between them, but the top three would be Kurt Vonnegut, H.P. Lovecraft, and Stephen King. I guess I'd go to Vonnegut for the big-deep-important stuff, Lovecraft for his sheer mind-blowing mastery of language and psyche, and King for technical precision and really entertaining distraction.

Colm Toibin just love how the words come to life, its like he is reading the story to you. Also its like I have been breamed into the books.

James Herbert has to be up there for me. And Justin Cronin for the Passage alone.

Heather Graham is my favorite author. I began reading her books less than two years ago and so far I have read 29 of the most entertaining stories. I am always delighted to find a book by her. From the first page to the last she keeps you interested to the point I hate to put the book down.

I grew up on the normal mystery novelist for children. Like R.L. Stine and Catherine Keene My first novel I pulled off of the trade in shelf for adults was Iris Johansen's Ugly Duckling, I got the first taste of romance, mystery and great writing, and that's always been my favorite novel of hers, as a scriptwriter, I still want to turn that plotline into a film.
