Without a doubt John Green
Crap happens; it's inevitable, it's a part of life. You can't let it destroy though, you learn to be stronger and wiser through the crappy things that happen.

Got several. My favorite is without a doubt Tad Williams. However, I also enjoy Eoin Colfer, Tolkien, Gail Carriger, what Saladin Ahmed's produced so far, Robert Jordan, and Naomi Novik.

George Eliot. Easily. (But that's quite a recent thing. I only finished Middlemarch - the first one I read - 6 months or so again, but I've been devouring them ever since).

I'm constantly reading new work by different authors so giving an overall favorite is very hard, that said at the moment I am loving the work by Camilla Lackberg. I started reading her books last year and have been hooked. I'm working my way through the series with Erica Falck at the moment and I don't want to put them down.
