I love Hemingway! "A Farewell to Arms" is in my top five of favorite books. He had a great perspective on the art of being a writer, though I don't think he was truly aware of his own mastery. It's unfortunate that his brilliance often gets overshadowed by talk of his personal demons.mmlittleone wrote:No one has mentioned my favorite author yet... Ernest Hemingway. He is awesome, such simple looking sentences but also a classic iceberg theme... so much of what he says is under the surface. For lighter reading, my favorite is Nick Sparks.

Theology: N.T. Wright- He writes stuff that is deeply scholarly and that you need a map to slog through, yet he can also write stuff easily accessible to the least educated.
Science Fiction Old School: Isaac Asimov- There is just something about his writing that drew me in as a young girl, and he even wrote science fiction geared for YA or Children!
Science Fiction New School: Dennis E. Taylor "We Are Legion (We Are Bob)". This is a new author that I just happened upon and I absolutely love his Bobiverse that he has created. It blends old school ideas in a new school format and the result just works for me. So clever.
Mystery: Soooooo many to choose from, Nitty-gritty Patricia Cornwell, Cozy Cleo Coyle, Donna Andrews, Diane Mott Davidson, JA Jance, Tony Hillerman...too many!
Guilty Pleasure: Molly Harper, her paranormal/horror/humor series about what if suddenly Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies and every type of creature came "out of the closet" is wonderfully wicked (language, steamy sex scenes, snarky sense of humor)
