I know some have used it to switch genders they believe the writer is to gain more success in the writing or the sytle of writing. Like a romance book written by a guy might get taken differently then if people thought it was a women writing it. But i want to say that was more in the past, could still be true today.

I just started dabbling as a new writer and I do use a pseudonym name. Mainly because i wanted something that was catchy and stood out to readers. I use the same name when I draw also. My pseudonym is an extrovert, spontaneous, outgoing and loves people. I am very introverted (not shy), plan everything months in advance, can be outgoing if it is absolutely have to, and I like people well enough lol. I am also a wedding planner and my job requires me to be an extrovert times 3 lol.

It does depend on your nationality; for example, if you're british all you need to change your name is a Deep Pool, it cost about £60 to get it filed and then you're good to go! If you're french, though, good luck: you can only legally change your name if your given name is offensive or embarrassing!

I have the same issue with the pronunciation of my first name. It is from my mothers name as is of Swedish origin. But my father pronounced it with the worst american accent and now most Americans butcher it in the same way. I've thought of using a pen name in writing, but perhaps that's what gives it an edge is how confusing it is. And I find that even with simple names people will find a way to butcher it.
But there is something very wonderful about being able to hide under another name. A freedom almost to write whatever you wish without being discovered.
