C.S. Lewis and his brother had only one joint in their thumbs. This made things like throwing, hitting a ball, carpentry, etc. very difficult. As a kid, he was harshly criticized by his peers for this and would cry over the many things he couldn't do that everyone else could.

Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) used to write while lying down. He believed it helped him think better.
