and i -somewhat cringing- agree with LOVEHATESYOU about palahniuk. he is twisted indeed. there was a story someone sent me of his once that involved a guy going down into a pool and getting too close to the suction port...i'll stop there. too graphic.

He is amazing!!!! I first read his books for a different branch of reading with the whole urban scene, i generally stick to classics but i loved his style.PrinMac2000 wrote:By far, my fave is Eric Jerome Dickey (right now). He mixes different races and uses lots of sexuality and eroticism in his writing.

My reflex Number 2 is Augusten Burroughs. I loved "Running With Scissors", "Dry", "Magical Thinking" and even "Sellevision". But I hated "Possible Side Effects" and "A Wolf at the Table". I think he's about to get bumped down a few notches because I don't think I can stomach any more disappointments from him.
I love Emily Giffin as well. She is insightful, smart, romantic, but also serious and discusses real topics. Her characters are very REAL. ["Baby Proof", "Love the One You're With" and "Something Blue"] [HATED "Something Borrowed"]
And my new one is Katherine Marple. I read "Okay" and found it inspiring, brave and very lyrical. I've only read this one book, but I have her other one "Wretched (this is my sorry)" on order. If "Wretched" is also very well written, I will push her in Augusten's spot. We'll see what happens.

THIS WOULD INCLUDE MANY FOR MANY REASONS. I WOULD HAVE TO INCLUDE SHAKESPEARE, NEAL STEPHENSON, WILLIAM GIBSON, TONY MORRISON, ALICE WALKER, ZORA NEALE HURSTON, ORSON SCOTT CARD, MICHAEL CRICHTON, CALEB CARR, BRUCE STERLING, H.P.LOVECRAFT (XENOPHOBIC MISANTHROPE ASIDE), ANNE RICE (EARLY DAYS), J.K. ROWLING, AND DR. SEUSS. THE LIST IS FAR TOO SHORT TO INCLUDE EVERYONE. I JUST RAN OUR OF TIME.
