I read a wide variety of genres but two of my favourites are definitely Frances Hardinge and Agatha Christie.Scott wrote: ↑01 Nov 2006, 18:39 Who's your favorite author? Why?
My favorite author is Henry David Thereau. I love Civil Disobedience. My favorite quotes are as follows:
I heartily accept the motto, "That government is best which governs least"; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which also I believe--"That government is best which governs not at all"; and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which the will have.Under a government which imprisons unjustly, the true place for a just man is also a prison.
I will never stop singing the praises of this woman. Frances Hardinge is a legendary fantasy writer and her novels are always so innovative, with such unique ideas. Her books literally embody the word 'fantasy' and she really pushes the borders of imagination with each new work. This woman is a creative genius and I would recommend checking out some of her books such as The Lie Tree, A Face Like Glass, Twilight Robbery...
As for Dame Agatha Christie, this woman was a revolutionising force in the mystery genre. Her books starring popular characters such as Hercule Point and Miss Jane Marple have been well-known and loved for centuries with good reason. Each plot is so elaborate and the twists are so unexpected, especially in books like Death on the Nile, The Orient Express and A Murder is Announced.

I have been lucky enough to ask her questions in some of her live feeds about upcoming books, begging for a couple to FINALLY have their day in the sun. Her response was, "Maggie is not ready yet" or "Van still has some healing to do". This inspires me because she not only writes the characters, she understands them.
Also, you might be reading one series and someone from another series makes a cameo. Her love scenes are smoking but the storylines are what draws you in and makes you keep coming back.

Probably Mercedes Lackey for her Valdemar series which strongly encouraged my love of reading from when I was very young, watching my mom read them, and I knew from that young age I wanted to read them, too. And I did, I have, and I've loved them. They're not all perfect by any means, and many of them are products of the time they were written during, but they still offered exposure to things that I might not have been able to see in life from an early time and it led to a more comforting time of coming to understand different people and they're connections.
For up and coming though, I also REALLY love Tracy Deonn. My partner picked up her debut novel Legendborn by chance before we went travelling. And when I picked it up afterward, I was really glad it had come up! The writing was incredible, the story pulls you a long and I didn't want to put it down and I'm just waiting on the edge of my seat for the next book in the series.
