Latest Review: "The Sanctuary" by Cassandra R. Siddons

Re: Authors

What a difficult question. My immediate answer is UK, USA and Ireland as I grew up reading those. I feel limited only having read in English and French plus some translations of Italian and Russian. I wish I knew more languages so that I could appreciate more literature on a worldwide scale, especially writings from the Far East.

I don't think anyone can answer that question, unless they can read fluently in many different languages. Otherwise, you're assuming that, in order to be well-written, a book must have been written (or at least translated into) your native language. Hardly a fair criterion.

There's also the matter of cultural bias. There are undoubtedly books that, to someone familiar with the culture, are amazing, but they may not resonate all that well to someone unfamiliar with, or uncomfortable with that culture. The fact that I can't personally connect with a book doesn't mean it's not great literature.
You can't put a rope around the neck of an idea.
