It might be interesting to study--the same thing that makes books viral are probably what make different articles, youtube videos, or gifs viral--people connect with the story, and it's engaging.

Personally, I think the Harry Potter books are written much better than the later YA books that came out and 'went viral', but no one can argue that there was something about these later books that readers connected to and enjoyed.

As far as the authors themselves are concerned, I imagine it's the same with them as it is for actors--some turn into movie stars and others (despite being extremely talented) don't. Viewers connect with that particular person (who turns into a huge success) in a special way, or are able to relate to them somehow.

But then of course, you have to have that 1% luck that makes all the difference... after putting in 99% of cold, hard work.

I think her books about Harry Potter have inspired a lot of people, me included. And I also think she deserves the money as she has worked hard to get where she is now. Her recent books I thought are of the same quality of eloquence that I so well know of her and love. However, I am very surprised that her book 'The Cuckoo's Calling' hasn't sold much before everyone knew that it was her who wrote it. But I will stay a Rowling fan.

I really loved the Harry Potter series and I was sad to see the series end. I wish she would write more books set in the same theme as Harry Potter. I was kind of disappointed with her most recent book and hope that he future releases are better.

I liked the books, although, I think Rowling could have made her general teaching characters have better names than they got stuck with. having the majority of the professors named with their first and last initials being the same was kinda redundant. I.E. Filius Flitwick, Severus Snape, Minerva McGonnagal, Poppy Pomphrey and so on, even the Founders of the schools had the same first and last initials.

I love her and I wish she would write more. I feel as though she is stuck in the realm of Harry Potter, not that I am complaining. Some fans might be upset if she wrote anything else, or they would just compare it to HP.

Rowling was one of the biggest surprises for me. As a school librarian when Harry Potter "became the rage" with the students and getting calls from parents insisting that their children NOT be allowed to read them (subject matter/age appropriateness/violence, etc) I picked it up and read it for myself. Loved it, Still love it. And I had the chance to put the parental concern fires out. Because of Harry Potter many of our non-readers became readers. Rowling deserves her riches for that alone, aside from being a good storyteller.

I believe it was their ideas that did it, and the time that they got their idea.

J.K. Rowling tried 12 different publishers I think before one agreed to publish her. At that same time fantasy books weren't as common so her first book undoubtedly interested kids because that type of book wasn't as usual. So people read the book; liked it and waited for more.
Crap happens; it's inevitable, it's a part of life. You can't let it destroy though, you learn to be stronger and wiser through the crappy things that happen.

I am ninety percent sure the world of Potter will be back...by popular demand and for the money.

Now that the series is over, and all 7 books and 8 movies are out, the hype of the series is in no way dying.

J.K.Rowling created an epic world in which all Potterheads call home. We can go there whenever we feel like it and we know that Hogwarts will always be there to welcome us home.

To say that J.K.Rowling was just made rich off of the series, and she's just rolling around in her money, is a disastrous statement. If anyone knows anything of her history and what she went through before the success of the series, they would know that she came from nothing to everything, which she absolutely deserves.

Rowling didn't even get to tell her mother about Harry before she died and that I think, was extremely unfortunate. Her mother knew nothing of her successes; a pain only people in that position could understand.

Also, Rowling has given much to charity over the years and it is even rumoured that she was no longer a millionaire because of it; of course that may not be true but the fact remains that she has touched numerous, numerous lives and she deserves all that she has gained as a result of it.

As for what she's planning to do now that the series has ended, well, we've seen her produce more adult literature so far, and I think that's the direction she would follow. She would continue to write, but not about Harry Potter.

Although, she has much more to say about Harry, as she knows everything that would happen to every single character years after the series as ended, she chose to stop. So her lack of continuing, is not as a result of a lack of creativity and/or story lines for the series, but rather because she wanted a break from the constant deadlines and I guess, the conundrum of the Harry Potter series.

Furthermore, from what I've learned about Rowling over the years, she is not one to love publicity. That may be hard to believe, but from her interviews, (and I've seen hundreds), she always says that she doesn't like social events and always prefers to be behind the scenes. Of course, being the author of this hit series, has not allowed her to be behind the scenes at all.

My point is that it is ridiculous to judge her on the basis of her successes and what we see on the surface, because she is more than meets the eye, and she is a woman of true depth and should not be the subject of ridicule, especially if we do not have first hand experience with her life.

The Potter series is on my to-read list but I have watched J.K. Rowling interviews because I admire the author. I find her and her story to be inspirational.

Well, she is the world's richest author, so I guess wipe her nose with $20 bills.

I think she is a great inspiration to both authors and readers. Heck, if it weren't for her I wouldn't think I would be the person I am today.
