I didn't care for the Twilight Saga at all but I love The Host and in my eyes it redeemed her as an author.

I heard about the Twilight series before I read it. It was a good read. Later I enjoyed the movies. Fast forward 3 years to The Host. What an awful book!

So what happened? Did I not pay attention to the writing the first time? Am I just a poor judge of writing?

I went back and reread Meyer's books again. No, I was right. This woman is not a great writer, but she does have a great team when it comes to getting good contracts. After all, she got movie deals on all of her books.

She is a writer of teen themes in a tough world. All the writing lessons will not make her a better writer. She is already good at reading the teen mind. I wish her the very best.

I loved her books when I first read them but now, looking back, the writing is not great. It's a compelling story, judging from her fan base, and clearly addictive but just not for those looking for quality writing.
BTW what is up with the amount of 'glaring' and 'growling' in these books. It's written like a hundred times.

I wish the Host would have a sequel soon :)

I enjoyed reading the Twilight Saga as well as The Host. I found the story lines have left me wanting more, but in a good way. I have reread her books and would look forward to reading anything else she may write.

Also, are the movies better than the books?

I enjoyed reading the Twilight Saga and I felt that the storyline was a good storyline. However I felt that was targeted at young teenagers (14-16 years) in terms of the story while the content in the last book I felt was more suited to adults or late teens. :-)

While her books are a good read they are written with a simplicity about them but they are meant for young adult readers who can kind of relate to that way of thinking. We were all young once!!!

I thought the writing in the Twilight Saga was a bit simplistic, but was an engaging story. I enjoyed The Host, but didn't think it was better. My question is, is she ever going to write anything else? I know she's riding the Twilight train, but now that the last movie is over, I would have thought she would be publishing something. Something NOT Twilight-related...

She likely accomplished more than what she originally intended. At 49, married with two grown children,I'm a avid fan of both the books and movies. The books were written for young adults, but obviously went beyond the intended scope, evidenced by the number one fan...middle aged women. The idea that these books only appealed to the uneducated nonreader is simply untrue. The seemingly simplistic books had a huge impact on me.I am able to enjoy the dvd's over and over. Yummy, romantic fantasy books sell to women, and the movies helped the frenzy.I doubt her goal was to create a literary masterpiece. I consider her books to be great, in that the appeal was on a massive scale. If a book touches one deeply, then it is great. I'm mourning the end of the Twilight saga.

I liked her when she was younger. The Host was definitely better than The Twilight series but working at a bookstore and having to deal with all the hype from the movies and books, I now pretty much hate them!!

I think that she is a bit overrated, but the story lines are good and they are engaging. I give her props for moving on from the 'traditional vampire' and trying something new. She is definitely not a great writer and that's why I think she's overrated.

The first movie was not good at all, but the ones after weren't too bad! I quite enjoyed the most recent one, I thought the cinematography was great.

I think Twilight is successful the way it is now because of the love story behind it, not the vampire aspect or the action in the story. Even in The Host, which I deemed to be a good book, the romance in the story is one of the factors that kept me reading that book.

She should write romance books instead.

I'm honestly not into her books at all I really tried getting into twilight but the whole love triangle thing, sparkling vampires and whiny Bella were just way too much. The books were just not that interesting to boot they just weren't able to capture my attention and they still don't.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Host and would definitely pick it up again. Having enjoyed it so much, I decided to give Stephanie Meyer's other books a go. I'm currently at the beginning of Breaking Dawn which was a struggle to get to whilst forcing my way through Eclipse. I did like the first two books, I have to admit, but the third one was rather tedious. I'm not one to start something and not finish it so I'm going to continue with the fourth book, which I have high hopes for after seeing the films.

Although, he constant repetitive use of "chagrin" throughout all of her books is starting to bug me!

I think the biggest issue I have is that IMHO, she seems to relegate women to helpless, brainwashed (or brainwashable) figures, and in a subtle way, promotes manipulative relationships.
