Probably only one unless I hear really good things about another one of their books. Then I might give it a shot. But that's the limit!

I'd be willing to give the authors a few tries. I'm looking for a strong plot in fiction and an interesting topic in non-fiction.

I wouldn't say I have a specific number of chances. But just because I didn't like the first thing I read by someone, that definitely doesn't stop me from ever reading anything else from them.

It depends on why I don't like the book. If I just wasn't a big fan of the story, then I might give the author another chance if another book of theirs sounds like a better story that I might enjoy. But if I didn't like the writing, then I probably won't give that author another chance. For example, I read Verity by Colleen Hoover. I'm not really a romance fan, so I haven't been interested in her other books, but I really like thrillers, so I thought I'd give Verity a try. I didn't really like the story or the writing for this book, so I probably won't read any of her other books.

On the other hand, I read A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham. I didn't hate the book, but I didn't really like it either. I predicted the twist early on, and I just wasn't a big fan of the story. The writing style wasn't bad though, so I tried her book All the Dangerous Things because the story sounded intriguing. I really enjoyed this book. The twists were a lot more unpredictable, the story made you wonder what's real and what's not throughout, and it was overall more suspenseful. This story just seemed better executed in my opinion, but since I enjoyed this one, I'd be willing to try more of her books.
