MeTime wrote:I love Edith Wharton. The first book I read by her was Age of Innocence. Newland Archer's wistfulness and realizations at the end really got to me and was very realistic for any time. I love that she wrote about living in New York while she lived in New York close to the time period, not as someone researching what it was like around the early 1900s. House of Mirth I absolutely loved, Old New York, Custom of the Country....Wharton has a way of expressing the complicated thoughts of her characters in all these books and you can identify with them even though our culture now is so different. Society and how people perceive each other and how much you care about what people think of you is still an issue. The book Summer was a different setting, and it was fascinating to me to read how an extra marital relationship and what the character considered doing about her unplanned pregnancy was described in that time period. We say things differently now but the same things go on. Ethan Frome also was very different. I'll never be able to describe how Wharton surprised me at the end. What a chill; I found her writing remarkable. Sorry to be so vague - I don't want to say too much in case anyone who wants to read her books!
Nice one - I've only read Age of Innocence, but look forward to reading more of Wharton.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald

Among mine are F. Scott Fitzgerald, and perhaps less well known, his wife Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald. Her writing style is wonderful and full of color.

Another name came to mind as i was browsing forums and learning my way around. Pat Conroy, is a particular favorite of mine. I enjoy his writing style, and his books are easy to read and get lost in. "The Prince of Tides" was so very detailed. I don't know, I really enjoy detail myself. "My Reading Life" was fascinating to read as well, short but interesting and gave insight to the man and author he became because of the books he was introduced to and read.

Susanna Kearsley is my current favorite author. She writes time slip historical fiction that is so intriguing that keeps you guessing all the way to the end. My three favorite books she has written are "The Winter Sea" which has been nominated for many literary awards and won the RT Reviewers Choice award, 'Mariana, and "The Rose Garden." Her books are written in dual time, so you have the present where the story begins and the past where the actual story takes place, and one way or the other, she manages to bring the two together. My only complaint is that her books are published in the UK first, and we have to wait a few months after they're released there before we can get them in the US. I'm anxiously awaiting her new book "Firebird", which is available in the UK, but not here until spring. Uggggg! As it turns out, you can't purchase ebooks in the UK if you live here. So I wait....

I love Richard Paul Evans, and most Christian authors. I have never read and of James Patterson's books but I am going to be reading the Maximum Rider series along with the other two of his young adult series. Although I am 20 I love young adult series, especially romance, and science-fiction/fantasy. I also love adult and biographies. I love reading Christian fiction and non-fiction. I love non-fiction as well. Some of my favorite Christian authors are Karen Kingsbury, Mitch Albom, Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker and Melody Carlson. I love magazines as well which have various authors.

mmlittleone wrote:No one has mentioned my favorite author yet... Ernest Hemingway. He is awesome, such simple looking sentences but also a classic iceberg theme... so much of what he says is under the surface. For lighter reading, my favorite is Nick Sparks. :)
I love Nicholas Sparks. I love his novels, Message in a Bottle, The Notebook, and A Walk to Remember. What are some of the books Ernest Hemingway has written? What genre are they?

I suppose I don't have very high-minded literary tastes: Stephen King is my all-time fave. That's not to say I love all of his work, of course, but for the most part I devour it like a child devours candy.

Other authors I love, in no particular order:
J.K. Rowling
Charles Dickens
Oscar Wilde
C.S. Lewis
Sophie Kinsella
Dean Koontz
Graham Masterton
