My favorite author would definitely have to be Khaled Hosseini. His first book two books, The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, were so amazing. I could not put them down. I would recommend any of his books to anyone looking for a great author. I can not wait to read his newest book, And The Mountains Echoed.

I'm new here as well. Mainly a fan of techno-thrillers and science fiction, and my favorite authors are Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston in that field. Not to mention the late Jack Finney, author of the superb time-travel novel Time and Again.

For historical fiction, I like James Michener and Ken Follett. For romance, it's Nora Roberts. For mystery, it's Erle Stanley Gardner.

Many of my favourite authors have already been mentioned, (mostly by becca!) but I do have to add in Lewis Carroll, Anne Deveson, Gustave Flaubert, Tracey Chevaleir, Herman Melville, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, Arthur Golden, Bryce Courtenay, Emily Bronte...
I'm sure I've missed some of my other favourites but this is the best I can do off the top of my head.

P.S. Becca you aren't the only one who hasn't read Harry Potter....I haven't even watched any of the movies either....can't get through the first one!

Thank goodness. I was beginning to feel the odd one out :? .....I have watched a few Harry Potter movies, but not all of them. I think she has a wonderful imagination, but I just never felt like reading any of the books. But I do read Marti's 'Game of Thrones' books. I am now re-reading 'Storm of Swords,' before the 3rd season is shown on TV in April.

Becca :)

Joanna Trolloppe because she has a way with words. Her descriptions of scenes and emotions are phenomenal. All her books are good - The Rector's Wife was exceptional!

My favorite author is Gena Showalter. Her characters draw me into their lives, though I know that sounds so very cliche. They have such rich depth and life, it's wonderful. Never once has this wonderful disappointed me. I own every book that she has written.

I'd have to say my second favorite author is J.K. Rowling. This woman is an absolute inspiration! Not only are her books truly amazing; she's an amazing person herself. She gives to charity with the money she makes from the books and movies. I've been in love with the Harry Potter series since I was a child. I picked up that very first book in third grade, and I've never looked back.

There are so many good authors I love to read. There are a few authors I make sure go to the top of my to read pile. Those would be Nora Roberts (as Nora Robert and also as J.D. Robb), Debbie Macomber, James Patterson, Susan Wiggs, and Robyn Carr. I have the authors I usually read, authors I will read anything because they wrote it, and I also love to explore new authors as well. I love books that are part of a series, as the ongoing stories make the characters more rounded and like actual people. I am constantly searching for new authors.
