Reading the question, I found myself having trouble saying which author is my favorite. There are so many great authors out there! However, to make a very long list very, very short, I would say the author to my favorite book Perfect - Judith McNaught.

My favourite author is Stephen King. Unreservedly.

I am not a troglodyte. I read the classics, non fiction, I've even read some romance novels. Stephen King delivers.

The things which make a story divine - I find in his books. I get lost in the story, I can picture the place and I know the people. I love reading. I love reading a good story. I keep reaching for Stephen King's books because I can rely on a good read.

R.L.Stine. I love all sorts of books but R.L.Stine is the first author I remember being totally addicted to.

I have many authors that I watch for new releases, but my favorite is Stephen King. He knows how to pull you into the book, and if you are not careful you will find yourself seeing what he is writing. He has made me jump just with his words, or slam the book closed for fear that the villain was coming out after me.

Difficult to answer, I do love many of the mainstream authors, they been around for many years and are well publicised. I also love discovering new authors, which can be a pain sometimes as anyone can self publish these days - but I say it is an achievement to write a book - regardless bad or good.
I love reading Agatha Chrisitie, Arthur Connan Doyle and a new discovery B.C.Stone ( murder at the belmar) who writes on similar lines, just a bit slow to start with.
Then, I admit that Jackie Collins is my favourite, but many people label her books as trash - sad really. I am a fan but cannot stand the other authors who try so hard to copy her style, fill up their books with heavy words, sex and verbal abuse. J J Salem held my attention for a while but sadly I felt it just fell into the above mentioned trap. But, I have discovered a book by M. Howson after reading Chances by J Collins. M.Howson (the principle of chance) writes along those lines and when I read the first few chapters of her book I thought it will be just the same. I was pleasantly surprised at the story and must admit liked it better than Jackie's books.

And the last one is MG Sweeney - for the love of god - nothing I would read but I was laughing out loud from the first page. The going gets a bit heavy towards the end but he has a sense of humour.

I have quite a few!

Keith Donohue: He has the unique capability of combining fantasy with realism. Not to mention, his writing style is beautiful, strong and steady.

J.R.R. Tolkien: I can't give him enough credit for the amazing world he has created through all of his works. His stories keep me constantly entertained. Sometimes I'm so focused on learning all of the terminology and history that I lose myself completely while reading. That's why I find so much enjoyment by reading and rereading all of his books.

Stephen King: I'll admit that haven't read as many books as most fans of King, but I've come to appreciate his style and his creativity in the few that I have read. He is truly a master of literature.

Jane Austen: Her understanding of women in her era is extraordinary to me. There really are no words to describe my awe for Austen being so ahead of her time. And when it comes to the act of storytelling, I greatly admire the multidimensional characters she so successfully wove into her plots.

Cathy Cassidy is one of my favorite authors, If you're a girl or boy and going through the whole "transition to teenager" stage then its amazing to dive into one of her books and read about different girls and boys overcome their problems!
Also I LOVE Jk Rowling! Harry Potter is the most magical adventure, I cant even imagine how this amazing woman bought so many characters and adventures to life!

For me, it will always be Jane Austen because she wrote my favourite Pride & Prejudice. There's no one like her. Her Darcy inspired many of the present authors. After all, most of the romance novels give a glimpse of Darcy in the lead male. So, its Jane Austen.

I have many many favorite authors, but the books I will pay full price for are Lee Child, his Jack Reacher books. I have not seen the movie with Tom Cruise yet, but was disappointed as Jack Reacher is a large man and, obviously, Tom Cruise is not. I thought a taller/larger actor should have played Jack. :D :D :D

For some reason I always find myself drawn to Stephen King. A lot of his older books are my favorites, like The Shining. I like the dark themes like those in his novel Salem's Lot.

I love J.K. Rowling and Nicholas Sparks. J.k. Rowling has a way of making intricate details matter later in the story. I find this a difficult skill to accomplish. Nicholas Sparks always has something new to add to the pot. His books are alway different. The Choice is one of my all time favorite books by him.
