Charles Dickens - Bicentenary

As this year is the bicentenary of the birth of the great writer, Feb 7th to be precise.
It's years since I read any of Dickens so I thought it might be an idea to take the opportunity of his bicentenary to get reacquainted with his works.
Anyone interested in joining me on this challenge?

Aaaagh, my TBR bookstack just tumbled over. Thank you, Fran, for the fine opportunity to re-read a great author
but I'll decline on the grounds that I have too many other great authors to read. I know you can do it!

@Fran, I own three Dickens books and have read them all a couple of times. Let me know which book you are going to start with and I will join in, but if it is one I don't own I will have to order it. Plus I have to finish my Sherlock Holmes books and when Jasper turns up in the mail I have to read it as well.

Sounds great! Might take me forever though! (I'm quite a slow reader!)
I love great expectations and hard times though!

Good call Fran, I have a copy of Great Expectations. As I have just finished "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" I will leave him for a second and read Great Expectations as well.

Great Expectations would rank as my favourite Dickens book. I do not have my copy with me so I can't read it but I shall watch the movie this weekend. I have the DVD for the David lean version from 1946, the best so far, to me at least.

Well into Gt Expectations and really enjoying it, its like reading a totally new book, so much I had forgotten or maybe it passed over the head of teenager me.
My but that man knew how to write a sentence, '...the small bundle of shivers growing afraid of it all and beginning to cry, was Pip'. Sublime

I am flying through it as well. I am so glad that you thought of this Bicentenary. Dickens really was an amazing wordsmith. Hey have you ever seen the movie version with Robert De Nero, Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow. I thought it was quite good, pleasantly surprised actually.

Didn't even know they did a version I must follow that up.
I've watched the older versions years ago .... memories of wet Sunday afternoons.

Just popped in to see whether or not your great expectations have been met and what the Dickens you're reading now.
Also to say that Google has done a fine job with the Dickens 200th birthday artwork.

Excellent, let me know what you think. Its been ages since I watched it. I think I might take another look at it after reading the novel and see how it compares.

David Copperfield is one of my favorite books; however, the reason I'm making this post is to tell "Gannon" that you have an awesome screen name. Watch out for Link, dude!
