Tell me about it! The reason I knew it was abridged: my friend told me this absolutely absurd, comical scene in the book that had me in tears. I also like Victor Hugo. I do feel that his books, like most classics, are better savoured slowly. I liked Notre-Dame de Paris more than Les Miserables.
