What makes you like your favorite authors?

What authors can you just not get enough of?
What about their writing makes you like them so much?

My favorites are Colleen Hoover and Jamie McGuire; they both write young adult romance novels.

I like authors who speak to me personally in some way. Just finished a book called "Last Man Down". It was a fire marshal who survived 9/11. Very emotionally written by someone obviously trained by years of experience not to feel. That paradox brings the narrative to life, he could be any of us just doing our job.

I also adore Terry McMillan. I don't read chick lit for the most part because I can't identify with characters or situations in any way. But TM's characters come in every age and voice, you always find a bunch of people you know in her books.
