Patrick Rothfuss

Post by wanderdreamcatcher »

Has anyone other than myself read the KingKiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss? Well, the first two books at least: the Name of the Wind and the Wise Man's Fear? He has yet to announce the release date of his last book the Doors of Stone, but it's supposed to be coming out this year!

He is my absolute favorite author! But, no one seems to know about him. I know only one other person who knows of the books, and she's from Spain...

I just want to start a conversation about the book, or see if anyone has even heard of the author.

Of course! For me, it's one of the best epic series since Lord of the Rings, and it was so fresh compared to a lot of the current fantasy series. I really loved the Name of the Wind; the feel of it reminded me of Ursula Le Guin.

Yes! Another fan!

I've never heard of Ursula Le Guin. But, I'll take your word for it. I just think the way he writes is fabulous! Everything flows together. He's quite the puppet master when it comes to character development. I have a bad feeling though that Denna's going to die, and... well, least to say, I'm not looking forward to reading that part of the book. It's just a hunch, but I don't know if I will be disappointed or ecstatic to see if the future war Kvothe will start will be because of Denna. I think I would be mostly disappointed, but there's nothing wrong with going the Trojan War route.

Have any hunches about what's going to be in the Doors of Stone?

Rothfuss is the only reason I started reading fantasy. I've read several fantasy series now, and none come close to the Kingkiller Chronicles. I'm glad there are other fans on this board. There is something so pure about Rothfuss's world building that is head shoulders above the rest.

I have heard of him but didn't read his books yet. I think I will wait for the last book to come out before starting the series.

That isn't a bad choice. I've made several friends read these books, and they were all ticked when they learned the series wasn't finished yet. Good news is they all loved the books.

I have heard good things on the series. Please let me know when the third book is out. :)

I wish that I had waited, the only annoying thing about the series is the delay between the books…

He started my interest in fantasy books. I wish the third book would come out soon. I'm going to have to read the first and second again

First of all I just have to laugh that this discussion started in 2014. It is now 2016, and I am still wondering what will happen to Kvothe on the third day of "Kote" telling his story to Chronicler. I love this series and author. But I also loathe him for leading me on with no conclusion in site.

I need to read Slow Regard of Silent Things. How did it compare to the other books? Are any main characters of the series in it other than Auri? I absolutely love her!

Years ago when the first book was published, Rothfuss said all three books were done. The third needed some editing before being published. Seven years later, and we are all still waiting. Really?? WTF..I, like many other people, refuse to start reading an author's written work until it is totally finished. I refuse to subject myself to this anymore. I don't need another George R R Martin. I will probably be dead and gone before the Fire and Ice series is done. Phewy on them all.

FYI..Rothfuss has another book coming out in October. It is not the long awaited 3rd book in the Kingkiller Chronicles.
