Yes I have heard of her - she wrote a series of fictional books about pre historic people - 5 or 6 books altogether.
I've read the first 3 or 4.

First and probably most well known is Clan of the Cave Bear

Of course. I have read her books in my childhood and loved them. I didn't read all the books in the series. The last books bored me and I didn't bother reading them.
