I actually have several inspiring authors that have helped improve my outlook on life and helped me grow as a person. Max Lucado's writings are short, relatable and very insightful about life. Pearl S. Buck writings showed how fragile humanity is and how important it is to take care of each other. The Thoene's historical fiction book Twilight of Courage inspired me to be more compassionate towards children. The Thoene's earlier writings were great at showing the reader that not everyone is a hopeless cause and people can change.

I have several inspiring authors. Nora Roberts trilogy books are one of my favourites of all times. I love the Chesapeake Bay Saga,and in the garden trilogy. Mostly she base her books on family and love. Another author I love is Dorathy Garlock, some of her books is based in the great drepression time. She also writes about family and finding true love. Also, after reading sherrilyn kenyon's book "Archeron", I instantly got hooked with all her other books and trilogies. I loved this book because it was so emotional and heart wrenching.

I've had quite a few over the years, but lately I've been reading a lot of the rising fiction stars... just so I can have a few guidelines on how to write fiction that is more likely to be accepted by the masses. Edgar Allan Poe has always been my first man when it comes to short fiction and poetry, though I can't get enough of Tennyson, Sir Walter Scott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Thomas Hardy, and Robert Louis Stevenson, either. I enjoy a little grace in prose, though I'm trying with all my might to balance sentiment and the new millennium in my own fiction. I guess publication will show me whether I've succeeded or not...

I have not heard of these authors. Thank you for sharing. I'm going to look them up on my library and download their books to my Kindle.

F. Scott Fitzgerald, hands down

I have a few inspiring authors. Victor Hugo is one because he writes with passion and pain. Debbie Macomber because her books are fast reads no matter many pages they are. Last, is the Bronte Sisters, because they write about love and falling in love. I read anything I can get my hands on, but those authors inspire me to do what I love reading and reviewing books with passion.

Excellent choices, Hope_cross86. The Bronte Sisters are some of my favorites. Charlotte was the best writer, and Emily was the best storyteller. Stunning talents.

Stephen King is probably my big one. Otherwise a lot of the inspiration I have gotten from writers have been from people around me that have written. I frequented fan fiction boards a lot, and some of them were the most amazing writers. My friends as well. Just inspiration for people around me.

Full out authors though, definitely King. He makes me feel slightly less crazy for writing what I write.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Charles Dickens and many other authors who used their writing to be a voice for their generation to denounce the decay in their society caused by the powerful people in their society. I think its a brave move on their part. Their bold writings I think is what makes it timeless. That is writing with a purpose. It's writing like that which can change our history, our world for the better.

I hated 50 Shades. I thought the book was poorly written in general...from plot to characters to grammar.

So if that can get published and become a national best seller with a movie deal? Why not me?

Although numerous books have touched me and significantly impacted my life, I am most inspired by Joyce Carol Oates. I am not a huge fan of all of her novels, however, I am impressed with her dedication and hard work. She has written over 40 novels and continues writing daily at the age of 76. When asked why she doesn't slow down she responded that she still has more stories to tell. I am also impressed with the complexity of the issues which she writes about and how Joyce Carol Oates, a petite, intelligent woman, appears a vast contrast to the characters in her novels.
