In the recent times , I have seen a large number of Indian authors coming out with their works of fiction. Although I have loved some of them there were also some very bad experiences. Please do let me know your views and which Indian author you feel is good ?

Jhumpa Lahiri,
Chetan Bhagat,
Amish Tripathi,
Parul Sharma,
Ashwin Sanghi,
Arvind Adiga

Last year I read "Tiger Hills" by Sarita Mandanna. It is an epic family saga that spans several decades and is filled with beautiful imagery and detailed character development. I couldn't put this book down and when I had finished it, I continued to think about the story and the characters for days afterwards.

Not fiction I guess, but such good writing...

I've read a couple books by Rohinton Mistry. "A Fine Balance" remains one of my all-time favorite books. He so beautifully--and heart-wrenchingly--captured the essence of India.

I am not well-read on Indian authors but I do really enjoy Jhumpa Lahiri's writing.

The only book I've read by an Indian author is "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry. This is an excellent book, but I think it has the saddest ending of any book I have ever read in my entire life.

I am yet to find my favourite Indian author ...still on the look out However, I liked the Shiva Trilogy by Amish.

I agree about the ending. Shocking and sad.

It really shocked me too. I love how the book warns you in the beginning, but you read on and are still unprepared and hurt by the ending anyway. It is so well written and the characters really brought to life.

What are his other books like?

The only other one I read of his was "Family Matters." It was good, but it didn't stay with me like "A Fine Balance" did. I should really read some of his others. You've inspired me to go look them up!

I heard that his first one, "Such a Long Journey", was really good. I think I will pick that one up too!

I felt the same about this book. Loved the characters.
