Alexandre Dumas

Post by Quianna »

I absolutely love his writing style. I've read The Three Musketeers, Ten Years Later and Twenty Years Later, but I stopped during Louise de la Valliere because I found it so goddamn boring. I still have yet to read The Count of Monte Cristo, sitting dustily on my shelf. Do you like his books, and if so, which one is your favourite?

Read The Count of Monte Cristo! It's one of my favorites and IMO Dumas's most cleverly woven story.

By the way, I just posted a topic in the general reading section about the D'artagnan Romances that you might be able to answer. :)

I would have to go with 'the queen Margot' since I love it as a book, as well as the movie.

Hey everyone out there. I am one of the biggest fans of Alexandre Dumas. Count of Monte Cristo is numero uno on my list followed by Dracula ( Bram Stroker) . Some other books that I simply love and can't stop reading and talking about are Robinson crusoe, Kidnapped, Treasure Island, Around the world in 80 days, How Green was my valley, Tom Sawyer etc etc etc.

I live in Delhi, India and have been reading since I was 10 years old. I am 38 now. First book was 'The haunted Mirror'.

Will love to interact with people of similar taste.

The Count of Monte Cristo is by far one of my top ten favorite books. (That's saying a lot, I've read so many!)

But yes, Dumas...a master at the art of excellent writing. He pwns quite a few authors.

"The Count of Monte Cristo." Yes, it drags in places, but is well worth the effort at the end of the day.

I have a book in front of me that a coworker insisted I read. This particular book was purchased at Shakespeare and Company in Paris where my coworker friend owns an apartment. The book is entitled, King Of Paris and it is a 1956 "roman à clef" written by Guy Endore which describes Dumas' history in detail. As it is a roman à clef some liberties were taken but the overall read is pretty much faithful to Dumas life experiences and bio in general. There is also an immense amount of anecdotal material, much of which is supremely funny. I am usually not into this sort of writing in which the author presents history or biography in a novelized form but I must admit that I have been enjoying it very much between books by David Mitchell (my current "best author").

I would heartily recommend King Of Paris to anyone interested in Dumas as an instructive, entertaining and VERY well written book on the life and times of Alexander Dumas.

I liked Count of Monte Cristo. I found Three Musketeers pretty good and fun to read. Books after that, Twenty Years Later, Vicomte De Bragelone, Louise de la Valliere, and The Man in the Iron Mask really disappointed me.

I've read The Three Musketeers and The Black Tulip. His writing style is enjoyable to read. His stories are pretty funny at times but at other times can be a little slow. Overall, I enjoy his books and would read more.

The Count of Monte Cristo is also a favorite, if somewhat long. If the original length of the book is too burdensome, there are some abridged versions floating around that are also excellent. Happy reading!

I have only read 'The Count of Monte Cristo' which, to be one of my all-time favourite books. A story of Love, betrayal, friendship and ultimately, a bloodless revenge, it is an excellent book.
