What an incredible experience! If I'm ever in Hanau, I'll have to try to go on New Year's Eve.MichaelMcManus wrote:The Grimm Brothers, but that is only because I once lived on Bruder Grimm Strasse in Hanau, Germany. There was a statue of the brothers (one sitting and one standing) in the market place square. Legend has it that at midnight on New Year's Eve, they change places. I never got around to finding out if the legend was true.

When I was a little girl, my absolute favorite fairy tale was Cinderella. Recently, I came across a drawing of Snow White and Rose Red, and I've reacquainted myself with that story. Presently, I have some ideas knocking around in my brain for a short story centered around the two sisters.

But i have read some of each and i think Hans Christian Anderson is better because it is more detailed and story-like than the Grimms stuff.
For Anderson i've read the Little Mermaid and The Snow Queen both pretty good although the Little Mermaid may be the most depressing story i've ever read lol .
For Grimm i've tried Sweetheart Roland and The Six Servants (which i'm convinced is the origin of the X-Men

Oh if you are going to read Grimms tales you could try the Charles Perrault versions instead, a lot of them are the same tales but Perrault tells them better.
And of course there are other collections of folktales apart from the Grimms and Anderson, such as the Bible or the Arabian Nights. The Seven Voyages of Sindbad are amazing! This is NOT the Sindbad from the films

Languages never spoken.
Colors that should not be.
Lives never opened.
Eyes that never see.
And then the page is turned, a universe created.
We are gods.
