Nicholas Sparks

I'm torn on the Nicholas Sparks front. When I read my first book by him I loved his work. It kept me engaged, not wanting to put my copy down, until the heart wrenching plot twist happened that had me sobbing so hard I couldn't see the words on the page. But as I've continued to read his other works I've noticed a predictable pattern. Small Southern town, a boy and girl fall in love but there is something that is trying to keep them apart. When I picked up "the longest ride" I expected it to follow the same pattern. Yet I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't. Sure there were a few similarities to his usual plot line but it took different twists and spoke of different topic that I was not expecting.
