Joe Abercrombie, I especially like his First Law series. For anyone who likes gritty fantasy, he’s your guy (if you’re ok with violence/gore). His characters are excellent, too.

At the moment, I recommend Kate Morton to anyone who asks. Her books are very well written and I am yet to find one I don’t mind putting down.

The author I always recommend is Patricia Briggs. She is my favorite with the Mercy Thompson Series and her Alpha & Omega Series. I love to reread the series every year and I always look forward to her releasing the next books of the series.

I'm an avid reader of fantasy and YA so I constantly recommend Christopher Paolini, Leigh Bardugo, Cassandra Clare and Melissa Marr. There are, of course, authors that fit into several other smaller genres like Haruki Murakami and Rainbow Rowell who I also constantly recommend.

Stephen King or Tolkien for younger generations who are just getting into the habit of reading. I'd say Bradbury or Shakespeare for more experienced readers.

Stephen King is always on the top of my list, but of course I do have others I enjoy. I also recommend Robert Jordan, for his series A Wheel of Time, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Anne Charles is also one of my top. I love the Deadwood Mystery series. Anyone who loves mystery should give it a go, it's got thrills, romance, jealousy, ghosts, and adventure. Definitely a great series in my opinion.

Erin Hunter.

I must sound like a broken record on the forums at this point, but I cannot stress enough how ensnaring their writing and the worlds they set up are. Erin Hunter is actually a pen name multiple people write under to create works together. They focus primarily on a young audience with their fantasy works focused on animals. When I first heard of their most popular series, Warriors, I was skeptical. I didn't understand how so many of my friends were obsessed with a book about talking cats. (Honestly, that's rich coming from someone who loves animals and watches cartoons with talking animals religiously.) I ended up moving schools when I was still very young and came across the series in my new school's library. I figured I would finally take up my friends' advice and start reading it and I was immediately hooked after the end of the first book. They utilize so many different characters and perspectives, and have a really fleshed out world that you get to explore while reading. Their books are also helpful in the fact that they provide maps of the territories and allegiances with character descriptions in the beginning of the book. It's so interesting to see how this animals live in their own organized societies in the wild while hunting, defending their territories, and of course entering battle with one another.

If cats aren't your cup of tea they offer other series following bears, dogs, and now African wildlife. All of their series are ongoing to this day, and they offer other material such as manga, field guides, super editions, and novellas to continue building on a character's story, or to take a look at events that unfolded behind the scens of the main arcs.

Their work is descriptive and the characters all have interesting personalities. I love their work and their Warriors series has remained my favorite book series since I first read it all the way back in junior high. They've amassed a large following, and have managed to keep their earlier readers engaged and entertained to this day.

I'm always recommending Patrick Rothfuss, author of The Kingkiller Chronicles to any avid reader of fantasy. It's stepping into a new kind of fantasy, but still holds all the thrill and wonder of the traditional fantasy genre.
