Holly Goldberg Sloan

"counting by 7's" by Holly Goldberg Sloan

This is the first book I have read by this author and I thought it was excellent!

This book is about a 12 year old girl, Willow Chance, who is one of many characters who are transformed in this story. Willow is considered an odd/strange child by many, but those who give her a chance realize just how special she is. The story takes place in a "typical" town that I think many people can relate to. Willow has to navigate a "typical" middle school existence in many ways, and an atypical existence in many other ways. This story is inspiring, especially at the beginning of the year!

Holly Goldberg Sloan does an excellent job of making you feel like you are all the characters at the same time, and yet, you are only Willow in the same instant. Sloan made me want to jump right into this book and be friends with Willow and help her navigate life as a 12 year old.

I am looking forward to finding more books by this author to read.
