Marian Keyes

Post by izaaaj »

I'm writing my thesis on the basis of Marian Keyes's novels.I'm mainly interested in popular women fiction as a self-help literature. Is it really possible to treat Marian's books as a kind of guide for modern women? Do they provide any kind of advice and help modern women to solve their problems or find answers to some nagging doubts or questions? Or maybe they can serve as a solace for somebody? Is there anyone who could share his opinion about this matter with me? Maybe Marian's books helped somebody in some way?

i find marian keyes absolutely hilarious but i never really regarded her as a contemporary writer. i tend to think of her as someone who would appeal to upper-working class thirty/forty somethings... thats just a personal opinion though. i wish she would write less about babies and how evil men are and write about something more relevant to younger women. i do think she is hilarious though. less chick-lit, more mummy-lit!
what's your top ten...?

I realise looking at the dates of these posts that you've probably already finished your thesis, but I thought I'd still reply in the interest of the conversation, and because I am a big Marian Keyes fan!!! I found her books to be quite realistic and relateable, not that I have personally had to deal with most issues she deals with in her books ie alcoholism, rehab, drug addiction etc... So I'd put her in the solace kind of section, I feel like she certainly empathises and deals with real relateable issues!
