I have heard alot about him, but I have never read one of his books. Which book would you recommend I read first?

Hunter Thompson, in case you are COMPLETELY new to him, was a journalist, thus, most of his writings are based in his "gonzo journalism" style. His only actual novel is The Rum Diary, which I would highly recommend. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is exceptional as well. A lot of his publishings are articles written for various publications, so if you do get into him, you will not be reading actual novels or anything. I would however say that he is definitely worth reading...

For the first one, I agree with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but I'd say also read Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 1972 which is a collection of stories and very timely.

It depends heavily on what you like. Starting with Fear and Loathing is a great idea. But if you're more into the political scene then you could start with Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail. Or if you like outlaw type journalism read his account of riding along with the Hell's Angels.

Yeah, he's experience with Hell's Angels is awesome. One of my favourite authors for sure, you can't go wrong with him.

Definitely Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!
