Well again I wind up with mixed reviews. What to do what to do? Or to paraphrase Shakespeare, " to read or not to read that is the question". I guess I will have to read it and judge for myself.

I did enjoy this book, however I felt it just wasn't for me. Reading your reviews I feel a little like maybe I just didn't get it? I like the history and the back rounds but the plot was just lost on me! Am I going crazy? Lol I rated it 2 out of 4 stars.

I liked reading this book though initially I thought it was rather slow, but the way the author has connected various threads fo the story is quite interesting. Worth reading once.

Indeed that's the case. Also applies to tv and film, sport's greatest players, and socio-political topics -- which all can be covered in book form themselves!

Definitely not my usual choice in books but it was okay. I didn't hate it but there wasn't anything that really stuck out to me as being extraordinary. I suppose I did feel for some of the characters....I learned this throughout the book as certain situations arose. Plus I got to hate Komninos because he was such an awful person, so that is something I like in a book. Overall it wasn't a terrible read, just not really my style so I couldn't fully immerse myself in the story. I think I would still recommend it to people I know that read similar books.

I honestly found the book to be a bit boring and not that interesting to read.

I enjoyed the book, and it was just as good as her previous novels. I love her style of writing historical fiction, she weaves the history of a place with a good story. You can learn a lot without realising it!

I have read the book a while ago. It was an interesting read with well developed characters. I was impressed with the historical information she gives about Thessaloniki in the WWII. Me being a native was not aware of her many details about the time. However, I believe her book The Island is better.
