Review of The Castle Of Troubled Souls Hotel
Louise returns to Castle and meets Joann, Richard's sister. Louise had been engaged to Richard, but Richard's mother was against their union. Hence, Louise left the town. She returns years later and learns that Richard is dead. Joann and her mother do not want Louise anywhere near them as they feel that she will only bring trouble. How does Louise's return affect Joann and her mother?
Meanwhile, Joann's business partners tell her that they have sold their shares to a new partner, Garrett. At first, Joann dislikes his character, but she begins to like him and hopes that their relationship progresses beyond that of business partners. Do Joann's dreams come true? Does love blossom between the both of them?
I found the book The Castle Of Troubled Souls Hotel exciting, to say the least. I love the way Drew Barlowe presented his ideas, and most significantly, I love how detailed his descriptions of the characters and scenery were. I felt that the book's setting completed it; this increased my appreciation of the book. It was a love story set in a time when people married from their class and where social status was a hindrance to marriage. Although this practice is still prevalent in today's world, it is at a lower rate. Richard and Louise's marriage was impossible because Louise was of a lower class. This added beauty to the story.
The book was suspenseful, and this is an amazing trait to find in a book. It had murder, crime, and romance in a short book of 100 pages, and I am both thrilled and surprised by the author's ability to weave in all the themes he did. I found only a few errors in this book; it was professionally edited.
However, I found some aspects of the book unrealistic. I found it difficult to believe that Joann could fall in love with someone as easily as she did. It felt so unbelievable that it took less than a day for her to go out with a total stranger. Also, I found some scenes irrelevant, like Jessica's stay in Joann's house. Perhaps the author could have used those pages to work more on the story of Joann's love.
Due to the negative aspects I found in the book, I rate it three out of four stars. The book was well written, and I find no reason to rate it lower. I recommend this book to lovers of romance, mystery, and short stories. It would make an amazing read.
