Review of The Greek Ring
The Greek Ring by Richard Pim follows the story of Sebastian North, who, in a bid to save a lady from kidnappers, finds himself now involved in a world more dangerous than he ever envisaged. Knowing fully well the dangers associated with falling for Octavia Delmonte, North didn't mind but did everything in his power to save her from the clutches of her ex-lover, who was seeking to destroy her after he betrayed her in a relationship that left her with a shattered heart. Things got more heated after a duel between North and Roberto, who was involved in the Silician Mafia. The Mafia will fight for their own, and they are hellbent on seeing North go six feet under the ground. The genesis of this chaos is a beautiful ruby ring that sits pretty on Octavia's finger.
Richard’s writing style is quite impressive. He used simple grammar to pen such a beautiful, suspenseful story that gave away no hint of what was to come in subsequent chapters. He gave perfectly detailed descriptions of diverse cultural backgrounds, historical events, the workings of the Mafia, and the physical outlook of his characters. With the thorough descriptions, pictorial representation of the scenes in my mind was made easy, which indeed added to the beauty and ease of my reading experience.
I loved how the concept of love was portrayed in this book. Simple but intimate activities like seeing a flamenco dancer or taking a romantic walk while holding hands were beautifully portrayed. I loved how North and Octavia loved each other; they expressed their love in sacrificial ways, and that reaffirmed my belief that love is determined by how much one is willing to give to be with another. Above all cultures represented in this book, I fell in love with the Italian culture the most. I loved their cuisines, dances, music, and the various locations mentioned in the story. Despite being a lengthy novel with various historical wordings, I found no grammatical errors, which showed that it was exceptionally well edited.
I didn't really find much to dislike about The Greek Ring by Richard Pim. I only wished for a little insight into the beautiful future awaiting the lovers, but the author could have a sequel planned, so I wouldn't hold that against him.
I understand that my complaint isn't valid enough to discredit this brilliant story, so I rate it 5 out of 5 stars regardless. I can't remove a star because there's no valid reason to do so. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy romance fiction and crime stories.
