This book was a great read. Set in 1880 Texas it starts with a scene in a saloon. The hero wins a girl toddler in a poker game, and the fun, action, heartache and love starts there! The hero, Duel is a knight in not so shiny armor. He is a retired bounty hunter with issues as he lost his wife and son in childbirth and blames himself. The heroine, Jessie, is running from a life of sexual, physical, and mental abuse, as well as the fact she just shot and killed her abusive husband. With the last of her strength, she rides into Duels camp. They form an instant family to care and love the toddler and begin a journey to love each other with the specter of the law, in the form of Duel's Texas Ranger brother, coming for Jessie. A cast of characters that provide lots of security for the toddler, love and support for Jessie, and a family no one and nothing can separate.
