Jungle Paradise by A N King

Imagine a tropical paradise hidden underground in the middle of England. Sounds rather unbelievable, right? That’s what I thought when I started reading Jungle Paradise by A N King. By the time I finished the book I was wishing it really existed, and that I could book a holiday there today!

This story is about ex software magnate, current millionaire, Alex Newman who is working occasionally as a PI for his brother’s firm. He is called in to investigate a “sensitive” case, as he has rubbed elbows with the upper echelon and knows how to interact with them. The case in question involves a young upper crust lady called Emma Buckingham who has found herself embroiled in a case that astounds. A bull headed man (with an actual bull’s head and glowing red eyes), an underground paradise, and possible scandal! Alex is his brother Simon’s best hope to get to the bottom of this! Alex lands himself an invite, and enters into the underground domain called Jungle Paradise.

While in the resort, Alex meets a sweet receptionist called Sara, a fascinating butler called Arthur, and a series of guests that put the Kardashians to shame. But in Jungle Paradise, everyone is in on it until proven otherwise!

I gave this book a 3 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the adventure elements of the book, along with the entertaining, sometimes ridiculous personalities that King brings to his characters. The reveal isn’t shocking, but I love the way the story resolves. Good Guy gets his answers, and Bad Guy doesn’t win…. well, not completely at least.

The worst part of this book when I began, was a glaring use of an incorrect word. Muscles cease up, rather than muscles seize up. It distracted me very significantly and I almost stopped reading. Some of the story elements were slightly far-fetched and a little odd, a few actions of the main character didn’t seem quite true to the previous characterization, and the fulcrum for the conclusion seemed a bit trite and contrived. The explanations for certain elements of the story were given in a “here is some exposition” manner, which felt a bit lacking.

As a whole, Jungle Paradise by A N King was enjoyable. It was easy to read, had moments that were funny and cute, and moments that left me guessing. I enjoyed the use of the resort as a setting. Some elements were a bit far-fetched or contrived in their reveal, but the story was entertaining fiction.
