All Roads Lead to Hades by K. S. Morgan is about a twenty-two year old, gay man named Jaime. At the tender age of five, his entire family was murdered, and the murderer was never caught. To this day his life is still in danger, but he really doesn’t care anymore. Jaime simply lives day to day, but all of that begins to change when he meets Kyle. Kyle is a blend of contradictions, secretive with honest eyes, kind with harsh facial expressions, etc. Jaime is intrigued, and compelled to know him better. He finds himself spellbound by Kyle and willing to overlook almost anything to be with him, but what if Kyle is involved with the danger Jaime finds himself still in?

First things first, I don’t know if some would consider the following a spoiler or not. Personally I don’t so here it is: there is explicit sex between men in this novel. I find that to be a very important thing for any book blurb, or review to mention. Just because we are told that the story is about gays or lesbians, doesn’t mean that there will necessarily be anything explicit in it. I can’t say how many times I’ve seen negative reviews because of something like this that was never mentioned before the consumer bought the book. If that is not something that you care to read about then do not start this book. If like me you don’t mind, then this book is really worth reading as far as romance mysteries go.

I really enjoyed this book. I always read romance, but I don’t normally read mysteries. I must say that this particular one has intrigued me enough that I may have to add this type of romance to my repartee. I liked that the story was well thought out. There were some things that I found confusing in the beginning, but then it was explained later on. Even minor details were explained satisfactorily. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. At times I thought that I had the plot figured out, but then there would be some twist and I would only be partially right. I loved it! I felt like I was interacting with the characters. If I would have gotten everything wrong then it just would have missed the mark a bit for me, but with me being right about some things I felt involved.

I gave this book a rating of three out of four stars. While I really enjoyed the book due to its storyline, there were some things about it that I did not like that prevented me from giving it four stars. At times I was confused as to who was the character talking, Jaime or Kyle. The whole beginning of the book is from Jaime’s perspective and then towards the end we finally get Kyle’s perspective for a bit. While I did like that we were able to get both points of view, my own personal preference is to have both POV’s throughout.

Another thing that I really had a problem with in the book was how Jaime’s character was portrayed. Often times he came across as weak. He reminded me of historical romance characters; simpering, swooning debutantes in London, from the 1800’s. Being gay and writing about a gay relationship does not necessarily mean that one person has to be feminine. After everything that Jaime has been through, is going through, and survived I really thought that his character should have been stronger. Even with the passionate dislike I have for this portrayal of Jaime’s character at times, I still give this book a high rating; because overall I really did enjoy reading it and I believe that others will too.

DesiP, thank you so much for your wonderful and thougthful review! I loved it, and especially I loved the words and phrases you chose to describe Kyle.

Just like you, I don't usually read mysteries, I prefer romance. And even though I had an idea that included murders, I still think the book is mainly a romance, because for Kyle, everything is about Jamie, every single aspect of his life.

I'm really glad you got a lot of things right.

I know it's not allowed to publish your full reviews on other websites, but maybe you would consider writing a couple of sentences on Amazon and/or Goodreads and putting a link to your full review on onlinebookclub.org into it, so people could follow and see it?

Thank you again!

Nice well rounded review. I do think it is important to mention if there is explicit content in a book as well :-)
